And the Winners of this Year’s Bell Business Excellence Award is…
Pardon us for blushing, but we’re simply not used to all the attention. Namely, the unexpectedly wonderful news that Barrydowne Paint was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Bell Canada Business Excellence Awards.
To say we’re flattered to be in the same company with some fabulous local business owners is putting it mildly.
“Sudbury is full of amazing entrepreneurs,” says Barrydowne owner Kelly Scott, who accepted the award on behalf of our entire team at the May 15th gala. “Because of local breakthroughs in mining and technology, Sudbury is known as an innovation powerhouse. We are proud to be part of a business community where entrepreneurs are encouraged to dream and develop new technologies that are now used across the globe. That’s what makes this win such a huge honour for all of us at Barrydowne.”
It’s moments like these that really make you stop and take stock of the things – and more importantly, the people – who helped you to get here.
What started in 1981 as Dave and Laurel Scott’s humble vision for a family-owned paint store, is now into its second generation of leadership and third retail location. Barrydowne Paint remains independently owned and operated, meaning our team can continue to deliver the kind of specialized attention you simply won’t find at larger chain stores. It also ensures we stay closely connected to our home town, which we do by embracing over 100 local charities, community events and fundraisers including United Way, Upfest and the Sudbury Kinsmen Showcase Sweepstakes Home.

In addition to being immensely proud of our team – the service professionals who are trained in an extensive line of products and skilled at providing expertise for any type of home project – we’re also proud of their role in our recent digital transformation. Re-examining what it means to be a paint store in 2018 and reinventing our service capabilities has led to the successful launch of our eCommerce site and creation of industry-friendly tools and a technology platform for our fellow paint and design companies to use.
Of course, we would be remiss without thanking you, our valued customers, as your loyalty, support and encouragement is what keeps us going and drives us to stay innovative. After all these years, we still consider it a privilege to be welcomed into your homes to assist with your unique projects.
At the risk of making a Sally Field-type acceptance speech, this award reminds us that above all, you like us (you really like us!) and for that, the entire team at Barrydowne Paint thanks you from the bottom of our hearts.
