These calculations assume 1 coat of stain, please refer to your product to determine how many coats are required. It is also important to recognize that all wood takes stain different, the below chart outlines rough guidelines to consider for coverage per gallon of product based on different surfaces.

Use the following formula to estimate the amount of stain you need. Double the result if the project requires two coats, triple the result if the project requires three coats.
1. Multiply the length of the area by the height of the area, to find the total project area.
2. Divide this figure by the appropriate stain coverage in the above chart, and the result is the number of gallons to purchase for one coat.
3. Multiply this figure by 2 and the result is the number of gallons to purchase for two coats.
