Benjamin Moore Specialists travelled the world, observing art fairs and exhibits to find key colour families used in art while keeping a close eye on cultural influences. This year’s colour of the year was greatly influenced by the arts and how they used colour, light and shadow to create mood and ambiance.
Shadow 2117-30, is a deep purple whose rich hue, lively pigmentation and mysterious undertone creates a colour that can change from a smoky charcoal or a lighter violet depending on the light. The relationship between colour and light became the foundation for finding this year’s colour, and it made sense to select a colour from the smoky, deep violets to be Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year for 2017.
The past couple years, we've seen a lot of colours with cooler tones. For 2017, there has been a revival of warm colours. Our palette ranges from pales to deeps and a selection of mid tones that can be used alone or in combination to compliment many architectural and design styles.
“It ebbs and flows with its surroundings, and light brings it to life. Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal. Indulge your mysterious side. Let Shadow set the mood.” — Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director at Benjamin MooreBrowse the Shadow Instagram Feed
